The Murphy PowerView® PV380 by Enovation Controls is a robust, flexible and economic display suitable for a huge range of display and control applications.
It features a 3.8″ monochrome LCD with a white LED backlight; the transflective LCD design provides excellent daylight visibility for external applications (even in direct sunlight), while the backlight provides a soft white illumination for night visibility.
5 tactile push-buttons on the front face can be configured to do everything from navigating menus, to change pages, to controlling other devices on the network. It features a total of 8 sensor inputs and a single 500 mA digital output capable of powering a relay coil.
The display also supports Controller Area Network (CAN) communications, including a native support for the J1939 protocol used by industrial and on-road diesel engine systems. This method of networking allows for a large number of devices to communicate and collaborate over a robust and economical 3-wire CAN bus, providing almost endless expandability and flexibility.
Despite being an entry-level product, this little display is incredibly flexible and fully capable of providing complex control logic on its own or in a wider network of devices.
Real-world examples of the PV380 include:
- Acting as a simple display for an electronically-governed engine: providing a mix of graphical and digital gauges of a large range of engine parameters in real-time; everything from engine speed to intake temperature, while providing plain-text descriptions of current and historical engine faults.
- Acting as an auto-feed controller on a diesel-powered wood-chipper, sensing the speed of the cutting disc and enabling or disabling the auto feed solenoid based on configurable cutoff speeds.
- Acting as a controller for a series of networked I/O devices (such as the Murphy IX3212). The PV380 configured to provide both a human-machine interface for specifying control parameters and monitoring sensor readings, and complex control logic to automate system response to readings by the second.
